Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe/Kampala – Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park Arrive at Entebbe International Airport. Meet your guide and drive north (approx. 5–7 hours) to Murchison Falls NP, Uganda’s largest park. En route, enjoy views of the changing landscape from lakeside to savanna. Overnight at a lodge near the Nile (e.g., Paraa or similar). Dinner and briefing for the adventure ahead.
Explore the park’s diverse habitats. Morning game drives in the Buligi area reveal elephants, giraffes, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, and possibly lions or leopards. A highlight is the boat cruise on the Victoria Nile to the base of the powerful Murchison Falls, where the river squeezes through a narrow gorge—spot hippos, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife (including the rare shoebill stork). Optional: Hike to the top of the falls for dramatic views. On Day 3, another game drive or nature walk in the Budongo Forest for primates. Relax in the evening with the sounds of the wild.
Drive southwest (approx. 6–7 hours) through scenic countryside, tea plantations, and rural villages to the lush Kibale Forest NP, known as the “Primate Capital of the World.” Arrive in the afternoon for a relaxing nature walk or Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary visit (great for birds and monkeys). Overnight near the park.
Early morning briefing, then trek into the dense rainforest with experienced rangers to track habituated chimpanzees. Spend a magical hour observing these intelligent apes as they feed, play, and interact. Kibale is home to 13 primate species, including red colobus and mangabeys. In the afternoon, enjoy a forest walk or community visit. This sets the stage for more primate adventures.
Short drive (2–4 hours) to the base of the Rwenzori Mountains. Visit the Equator or enjoy views of the snow-capped peaks. Prepare gear and meet your mountain guides and porters. Overnight at a comfortable lodge or guesthouse in Kasese or Nyakalengija trailhead.
Embark on a multi-day trek (typically 4–6 days for a rewarding circuit, adjustable based on fitness and goals). Start along the Kilembe or Central Circuit trail, ascending through lush montane forest, bamboo zones, and giant heather into Afro-alpine meadows with lobelias, groundsels, and colorful mosses. Cross scenic valleys, rivers, and ridges with stunning views of glacial peaks (e.g., Margherita Peak at 5,109m if aiming high—though a full summit requires more days). Nights in mountain huts or tents. Experience dramatic weather changes, pristine wilderness, and a profound sense of adventure. Porters carry gear; guides ensure safety. Descend refreshed by Day 10/11 with unforgettable memories of the “Mountains of the Moon.”
Drive south (approx. 4–6 hours) through stunning scenery to Bwindi Impenetrable NP, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to nearly half the world’s mountain gorillas. Arrive in the afternoon for relaxation or a community cultural experience. Overnight at a lodge overlooking the misty forest.
The ultimate primate highlight! After a briefing, hike into the dense, ancient rainforest (1–7 hours depending on the group) with rangers to meet a habituated gorilla family. Spend a permitted hour in their presence—watching silverbacks, mothers, and playful youngsters up close. The experience is emotional and profound. Afternoon at leisure or optional forest walk.
Drive (1–2 hours) to the jewel-like Lake Bunyonyi, Uganda’s deepest lake with over 20 islands and terraced hillsides. Enjoy a canoe ride or boat trip spotting birds, or simply relax with panoramic views. Optional: Visit local communities or swim in the bilharzia-free waters. This day offers perfect recovery after the hikes and treks
Morning drive (approx. 3–4 hours) to compact Lake Mburo NP for a final wildlife safari. Spot zebras, impalas, elands, buffaloes, and a variety of birds on game drives or a boat trip on the lake. In the afternoon, transfer back toward Kampala/Entebbe (4–5 hours) for your evening departure flight, or extend with an overnight if needed.
