Akagera National Park, Volcanoes National Park

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali & Transfer to Akagera National Park

Upon arrival in Kigali, you will be welcomed by your safari guide and briefed about your adventure. Depending on your arrival time, enjoy a short city tour including key landmarks before departing for Akagera National Park, Rwanda's only savannah national park and home to the Big Five. The scenic drive takes you through Rwanda's beautiful countryside characterized by rolling hills, farmlands, and traditional villages. Arrive at your lodge in the afternoon and spend the rest of the day relaxing while enjoying views of the park's lakes and wildlife. Accommodation: Akagera National Park Area Meals: Lunch & Dinner

Day 2: Full-Day Game Drive & Boat Safari in Akagera National Park

Rise early for a thrilling game drive through the diverse landscapes of Akagera National Park. The park boasts open savannah, wetlands, woodlands, and numerous lakes that support an impressive variety of wildlife. Look out for elephants, lions, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, hippos, crocodiles, and, with some luck, rhinos and leopards. Akagera offers some of the best wildlife viewing opportunities in East Africa. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat safari on Lake Ihema, one of the park's most scenic lakes. The boat cruise provides excellent sightings of hippos, Nile crocodiles, and a rich diversity of bird life including African fish eagles, kingfishers, herons, and cormorants. Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, depart Akagera and journey across the beautiful landscapes of Rwanda towards Volcanoes National Park in the northwestern region of the country. The drive offers spectacular views of Rwanda's famous rolling hills, terraced farms, and vibrant local communities. Arrive at the foothills of the Virunga Volcanoes in the afternoon and check into your lodge. Spend the evening relaxing and preparing for the next day's unforgettable gorilla trekking experience. Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Today marks the highlight of your Rwanda safari. After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking guidelines. Accompanied by experienced ranger guides, venture into the dense forests of Volcanoes National Park in search of a habituated mountain gorilla family. The trek may take anywhere from one to several hours, depending on the gorillas' movements. Once found, spend a precious hour observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat. Watch as silverbacks protect their families, mothers nurture their infants, and young gorillas play in the forest. This rare wildlife encounter is one of the most rewarding experiences in Africa. Day 5: Return to Kigali & Departure

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast with views of the Virunga Mountains before departing for Kigali. Depending on your departure schedule, you may visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial or explore local craft markets for souvenirs and cultural experiences.
