You wake before sunrise in the cool air when Bwindi is still wrapped in mist, have an early breakfast, get ready for the day with your water bottle, packed lunch, rain jacket, camera, and any other essentials, head to the briefing point at the park headquarters for information and allotment to the gorilla family you are going to track, then set out to the forest with your rangers, trekking through the dense vegetation until you meet the mountain gorillas. The trek can take from 2 – 7 hours, depending on the movements of the gorillas influenced by the supply of food. You could walk for a relatively short period, or you could spend several hours navigating steep slopes, slippery ground, and thick vegetation.
