Mount Elgon Hiking Trails
Mount Elgon offers several trekking routes, each providing a different perspective of the mountain.
Sasa Trail: Duration: 3–4 days
This is the shortest and the most direct route to Wagagai Peak.
Best for: experienced hikers, Climbers with limited time, Adventurous trekkers
Piswa Trail: Duration: 5–7 days
Known for its gradual ascent and sweeping panoramic views.
Best for: Wildlife enthusiasts, First-time high-altitude trekkers, Scenic photography
Sipi Trail: Duration: 4–6 days
Beginning near the famous Sipi Falls, this trail combines waterfalls, coffee farms, caves, and montane forest before joining the main summit route.
Best for: Nature lovers, Multi-day trekking, Cultural experiences
Bushiyi Trail: Duration: 5–6 days
A quieter route on the southern slopes that passes through dense forests, bamboo zones, and local communities before reaching the high moorlands.
Best for: Repeat visitors, Birdwatchers, Trekkers seeking solitude
Bugiboni /Sasa Trail: Duration: 5–6 days
One of Mount Elgon’s newest trekking routes, it starts at Bugiboni then joins the Sasa Trail. This trail offers a less-traveled approach with exceptional scenery and authentic community interactions.
